First statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the Gaza ceasefire resolution

A resolution proposed by the United States calling for a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages has been adopted for the first time by the United Nations Security Council.

In the vote held at the 15-member UNSC, the resolution proposed by the US received 14 "yes" votes, while Russia abstained.

The adopted resolution pointed to the diplomatic efforts led by Egypt, the US, and Qatar, and welcomed the 3-phase proposal presented by Biden on May 31.

The resolution, which states that Israel has accepted Biden's proposal, also called on Hamas to accept and implement the proposal.

The resolution notes that under the 3-phase proposal, the first phase will ensure an immediate ceasefire, the release of women, elderly, and wounded hostages, the exchange of Palestinian prisoners, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from populated areas in Gaza, an increase in humanitarian aid, the reconstruction of essential services, the return of Palestinian civilians to their homes throughout the entire strip, including northern Gaza, and the necessary housing contributions from the international community.

In a written statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stated: "We consider Resolution 2735, adopted by the UNSC on June 10 regarding the establishment of a ceasefire in Gaza, an important step toward ending the massacre in Gaza. We welcome Hamas's constructive and positive approach to the aforementioned ceasefire plan. It is essential that Israel commits to adhering to a permanent ceasefire and fully implements all elements of the resolution. Turkey will continue to contribute to steps that will ensure the permanent end of the war, the withdrawal of Israel from the entirety of Gaza, the mutual release of hostages and detainees, the return of displaced Palestinians to Gaza, the uninterrupted and sufficient delivery of humanitarian aid, and the reconstruction of Gaza."
