Flash 'Justice Vigil' decision from CHP
Following the Court of Cassation's filing of a criminal complaint against Constitutional Court members, the Republican People's Party (CHP), which began a 'Justice Vigil' in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly Hall, will continue its protest for some time longer.
CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır, in a press conference held with deputies continuing the Justice Vigil in the TBMM General Assembly Hall, criticized the Court of Cassation for failing to comply with the Constitutional Court's ruling on the violation of rights regarding Can Atalay.
"WE DEMAND RESPECT FOR THE CONSTITUTION"
Reminding that the CHP Group began its protest in Parliament on November 9, Başarır stated, "The CHP Group has been holding a justice vigil for 276 hours. As a group that respects the will of Parliament and the rule of law, we want this problem to be solved. We demand respect for the Constitution."
Recalling that according to Article 81 of the Constitution, deputies take an oath that they "will not deviate from loyalty to the Constitution," Başarır expressed that they expect the same from the judiciary.
CALL TO NUMAN KURTULMUŞ: THE PARLIAMENT SPEAKER CANNOT REMAIN SILENT
Stating that the judiciary should solve problems, Başarır said, "The Court of Cassation, like a tutelary institution, has trampled on the decisions of the Constitutional Court, which is the highest court, and has disregarded the will of the people. I am calling out to the Speaker of Parliament from here: This problem is primarily a problem of the parliament; you must solve this problem. We, as the CHP Group, have been holding this protest for 276 hours for this problem to be solved. Come and solve this problem. Make statements for the will of the people and the rule of law. The Parliament cannot remain silent. The Speaker of Parliament cannot remain silent."
Pointing out that the world is watching Turkey, Başarır said, "If we set the constitution aside even once, if we trample on the provisions of the constitution and the decisions of the Constitutional Court even once, we cannot speak of order or law in this country."
Noting that they are protesting in the TBMM General Assembly to protect the will of 85 million people, the rule of law, and the constitutional order, Başarır stated, "We will continue the protest for some time longer. We condemn the fact that while this protest is being held in Parliament, with a 24-hour vigil, the Speaker of Parliament remains silent, does not come out to make a statement, and does not invite the Court of Cassation to respect the Constitution."
Meanwhile, the deputies who attended the press conference held copies of the Constitution in their hands.
