Former Minister Ertuğrul Günay rejected CHP's candidacy offer: 'This proposal...'

Former Minister of Culture and Tourism Ertuğrul Günay announced in a statement on X that he had received a candidacy offer from the CHP for Ordu, but that he had rejected it.

The full text of the statement Günay made on social media is as follows:

"I DO NOT THINK I WILL FIT INTO A PARTY MOLD"

"Last week, the CHP Ordu Provincial Chair, members of parliament, and the esteemed Chairman showed the courtesy of making a proposal for the Metropolitan Mayoral candidacy. Subsequently, many of my fellow citizens also shared this suggestion. About a month ago, my colleague, the Saadet Party Provincial Chair in Ordu, also visited me with a delegation and showed the courtesy of asking for my thoughts on a 'joint candidacy.' I thank them all. For 10 years, I have remained independent—as the price for objecting to wrongs. I have no affiliation with any party; in return, I have friends and acquaintances from almost every circle and party. If this proposal had come last spring, when our country needed a 'neutral and independent joint name,' I think it would have been more meaningful. At this hour, I do not think I could fit into a party mold, or that my understanding of 'rights, justice, and democracy' could fit within the boundaries of existing parties. Nevertheless, I thank all our friends who expressed this proposal with good intentions. I wish success to all candidates who set out with a true passion to serve the nation. With the hope of seeing justice and peace prevail in our country—without further delay—I offer my love and respects."
