The YENİ Party Central Executive Committee (CEC) met at the party headquarters under the chairmanship of Chairman Özgür Özel.
The fund crisis was one of the main agenda items of the meeting, which began at 11:00 AM and lasted over four hours.
In addition to the fund crisis, the party's congress process and convention preparations were also evaluated. Party officials stated that they would continue to keep the crisis on the parliamentary agenda.
PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE AGENDA
Officials pointed to the "Draft Law on Certain Investment Funds Decided to be Liquidated," which is expected to be discussed in the Planning and Budget Committee on Wednesday, October 14. It was stated that the proposal includes regulations regarding payments to victims.
Party sources stated that they would bring the issue to the agenda during the committee discussions, noting, "The proposal regarding the payment of victims will come to the agenda this week. We will discuss the issue there and ask our questions. The government is brushing off the crisis and does not want it to be investigated. We will pursue it."
At the CEC, there was also a reaction to AKP Group Chairman Abdullah Güler's defense of not disclosing the 214 names involved in the fund crisis, citing the "right not to be stigmatized" and the "presumption of innocence." Views were expressed at the meeting that the process was being "conducted unlawfully" and that a "double standard" was being applied.
The fact that no new names were disclosed following the "deadline until Monday" given to the AKP last week by İzmir Deputy Ümit Özlale, who makes statements on behalf of the crisis desk established by the YENİ Party regarding the fund crisis, was also evaluated at the meeting. Officials commented, "The important thing is not to drift away from the process. We must not let the process regarding Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya fall off the agenda."
The other agenda item of the CEC was the congress calendar. According to the party program, provincial chair primary elections will be held this weekend. It was reported that 91 YENİ Party deputies will monitor the primary elections on October 17-18 in their respective provinces.
Özgür Özel is expected to observe the primary elections in two provinces near Ankara on Saturday and cast his vote in his hometown of Manisa on Sunday. It was also learned that Özel will follow the defense expected to be made this week by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu in Silivri as part of the IMM Case.
