Abdullah Gül's striking statement on Öcalan: Full support for Bahçeli, a warning to Erdoğan!

11th President Abdullah Gül evaluated the process initiated by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's call during his group meeting for terrorist organization PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan to "dissolve the terrorist organization PKK."

This issue, which some in Turkey call the 'Kurdish question' and others call the 'terror issue,' is one of the country's most important problems.

During my presidency and in my previous positions, I also advocated that this issue must be removed from the agenda through Turkey's own initiative.

As someone with this perspective, I evaluate Mr. Bahçeli's statements as an 'extraordinary step.'

At this stage, some past attitudes must be left behind. In this process, I would like to express that I sincerely see the support of the government and the President.

Some segments may want to see the President take on a more active role. However, I believe that it is a correct approach for the President to act more cautiously due to his position.
