AKP figure's 'Presidential System' admission: 'This did not work for Turkey'

Hüseyin Çelik, one of the founders of the AKP who also served as Minister of National Education, criticized the Presidential Government System, stating that Turkey has been harmed by this system. Speaking to the ANKA News Agency, Çelik said, "This Turkish-style presidential system has not worked for Turkey. A structure where all powers are concentrated in one hand is not a democratic structure."

Çelik added, "Turkey must return to a parliamentary system with its flaws corrected."

In addition to the deterioration in the law and justice system, Çelik also drew attention to economic problems. Stating that the public's primary issue in Turkey is the economy, Çelik said, "People are already in a very difficult situation due to economic hardships. Everyone is aware that the economy is going poorly."

CRITICISM OF THE NEW CONSTITUTION

Touching upon the discussions regarding a new constitution, Çelik assessed, "I am not against making a new constitution. However, a constitution should be made that will resolve the problems we are experiencing today. Otherwise, if this constitution is made for more authority and power, it will not be accepted by the public."

Çelik said, "Authority and power are good, but they must be controlled. If you tell the public, 'let's make a new constitution but let it give us more power,' people will oppose it."

"THE PROCEDURE IS WRONG FROM THE START"

Speaking about the detained Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Ekrem İmamoğlu, Hüseyin Çelik said, "I have not examined the file, I am not a judge or a prosecutor, but I do not find the trial method correct."

Çelik reacted to the practice, saying, "It is absolutely not right for his home to be raided by hundreds of police at the crack of dawn to take him into custody. Procedure sometimes comes before substance. The procedure is wrong to begin with."

Pointing out that there are political calculations in the process targeting İmamoğlu, Hüseyin Çelik stated, "The public perception today is this: If Ekrem İmamoğlu had quietly served as mayor and had not aspired to the presidency, neither the diploma issue would have come to the agenda, nor would these events have occurred."

REACTION TO THE DIPLOMA ISSUE

Evaluating the decision regarding the cancellation of İmamoğlu's diploma, Çelik said, "This is a much more dire situation. In my opinion, the Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration displayed a dignified stance. However, when no results were obtained, the university board of directors was brought into play and this decision was made. This decision is a disgrace; such a thing cannot be."

Çelik further stated, "If there is an error in the application made by Ekrem İmamoğlu, this is the fault of the university administration. The person who performed the registration is responsible. Whose fault is it to register a student who does not meet the requirements? The one who registered them. Therefore, no matter which side you look at it from, Turkey needs to get rid of this agenda and let reason prevail."
