As protests continue across the country following the arrest of 48 people, including Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, a striking claim has emerged from behind the scenes.

According to Nefes newspaper columnist Deniz Zeyrek, the AK Party had made a plan to appoint trustees to the İBB and the CHP, but abandoned this decision as the process unfolded. Zeyrek stated, "I learned this while speaking with very important figures: In the process that began on March 19, a 'two-trustee' plan was made. The first trustee was intended for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. The second trustee was for the CHP..."

However, noting that the government took a step back due to both economic and political reactions, Zeyrek wrote that prominent figures in the AK Party intervened and attempted to cut off direct communication between President Erdoğan and the Istanbul Courthouse.

Within the party, the possibility that problems would grow even larger if a trustee were appointed was discussed. According to the information Zeyrek obtained, there was communication traffic between the AK Party and the CHP during this process, and the information that "no trustee will be appointed to either the İBB or the CHP" was conveyed to the opposition.

HOLIDAY SURPRISE

On the other hand, Zeyrek suggested in his column that the extension of the holiday to 9 days might also be connected to this process. Stating that under normal conditions, the holiday is extended when there is a one or one-and-a-half-day gap in between, Zeyrek found it noteworthy that three full days of administrative leave were granted this time.
