All eyes on cabinet change in government... New role for Berat Albayrak: To the Palace? Or to the cabinet?

Following the heavy defeat in the March 31, 2024 local elections, it was claimed that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan would make radical changes to the cabinet and party management. However, the expected steps were not taken in the time that has passed since the elections.

In recent days, however, Ankara's political circles have become active again. The reason is that the majority of the current Presidential Cabinet will become eligible for retirement as of June 3, 2025. This date is being interpreted in political circles as the beginning of a new era.

ALBAYRAK'S NAME IS BACK ON THE AGENDA

The most striking name among the scenarios for these changes is former Minister of Treasury and Finance Berat Albayrak, who has stayed away from politics for some time.

According to insider information reported by journalist Olcay Aydilek based on reliable sources, it is claimed that Berat Albayrak will return to Beştepe with a critical role during a cabinet reshuffle likely to take place in June.

It is suggested that Albayrak could sit in one of the seats at the Ministry of Trade or the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, where he previously served, if he wishes. However, according to the claims, this is not the main plan.

There is talk that an executive Vice Presidency position, responsible for 5 ministries, is being prepared for Albayrak at Beştepe. This step is evaluated as a reflection of Erdoğan's search to consolidate executive power more at Beştepe in the new term.
