Another piece of bad news for Erdoğan... Citizens react to the İmralı process and operations against municipalities

AREA Research has shared the results of its "January 2025 - Turkey Political Agenda Survey." In the survey, which was conducted between January 22-24, 2025, with a total of 2,022 people aged 18 and over in 26 provinces, citizens were asked numerous questions such as 'whether they find the Presidential Government System successful,' 'the operations carried out against CHP-run municipalities,' and 'the government's economic policies.'

The questions asked in the survey and the responses given are as follows:

PRESIDENTIAL SYSTEM NOT FOUND SUCCESSFUL

Citizens' response to the question "Do you find the 'Presidential Government System' successful?" was 'negative.' While the rate of those who find the system "successful" was 36.2 percent, the rate of those who find it "unsuccessful" was 60.1 percent, and the rate of those who did not express an opinion was 3.7 percent.

ERDOĞAN'S RE-CANDIDACY

Citizens responded 'no' with 65.3 percent to the question, "Should the 'only two-term presidential election rule' in the Constitution be changed so that Recep Tayyip Erdoğan can be a candidate again?" The rate of those who stated that the Constitution should be changed so that Erdoğan can be a candidate again was 29.7 percent, and the rate of those who did not express an opinion was 5.0 percent.

GOVERNMENT'S ECONOMIC POLICIES ARE UNSUCCESSFUL

To the question "Do you find the government's economic policy successful?", the rate of citizens who found it "successful" was 24.3 percent, and the rate of those who found it "unsuccessful" was 73.6 percent. The rate of those who did not express an opinion was 2.1 percent.

THE TARGET OF THE OPERATIONS IS İMAMOĞLU

To the question "What is your opinion regarding the operation carried out against the Beşiktaş Municipality?", the rate of citizens who said it is "a corruption investigation" was 30.7 percent, and the rate of those who said "It is a political case, the real target is Ekrem İmamoğlu" was 46.6 percent. The rate of those who did not express an opinion was reported as 22.7 percent.

DEM PARTY'S ÖCALAN MEETING

In the survey, 67.1 percent of citizens stated that they viewed the DEM Party's meeting with Öcalan in İmralı 'negatively.' The rate of those who viewed the DEM Party delegation's meeting with Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı "positively" was 26.9 percent, and the rate of those who viewed it "negatively" was 67.1 percent. The rate of those who did not express an opinion was 6.0 percent.

VIEWS ON BAHÇELİ ARE ALSO NEGATIVE

In the survey, it was observed that the rate of those who said "positive" to the question "What is your general opinion regarding Devlet Bahçeli?" was 29.1 percent, the rate of those who said "negative" was 65.8 percent, and the rate of those who did not express an opinion was 5.1 percent.

THE GAP BETWEEN AKP AND CHP IS VERY SMALL!

In the election survey within the research, participants were also asked the question, "If there were a parliamentary election today, which party would you vote for?"

When the "distribution over total voters" was calculated, the AKP ranked first with 22.9 points, and the CHP ranked second with 22.7 points.

It was observed that the MHP reached 7.4 percent, the DEM Party 6.3 percent, the Zafer Party 5.9 percent, the İYİ Party 5.5 percent, and the New Welfare Party (Yeniden Refah Partisi) 2.5 points.

When the "distribution over valid votes" was calculated, the AKP's score was 29.3 percent, and the CHP's score was 29.1 percent.

The votes of other parties are as follows:

MHP: 9.5 percent

DEM Party: 8.1 percent

Zafer Party: 7.6 percent

İYİ Party: 7 percent

New Welfare Party: 3.2 percent
