Another political ban request for İmamoğlu: A new indictment has been prepared

Following the cancellation of the university diploma reportedly obtained in 1993 by the imprisoned Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor and presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, the prosecutor's office has taken action.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has completed its investigation into the diploma and prepared an indictment.

The 20-page indictment is based on the charge of "forgery of official documents in a chain manner."

The prosecutor's indictment argues that İmamoğlu obtained his diploma through fraudulent means and "knowingly participated" in this process. The following statements in the indictment drew attention:

"It has been determined that there were irregularities in grade adjustments during the defendant Ekrem İmamoğlu's university education, and that graduation procedures were completed despite him not meeting the credit and attendance requirements, rendering the diploma invalid."

UNIVERSITY SUBMITTED DEFENSE

Regarding the investigation in question, Istanbul University submitted a 500-page defense yesterday. Thus, the indictment for the investigation, which began on February 22, was completed after 133 days.

WHAT HAPPENED?

İmamoğlu's university diploma was cancelled by the Istanbul University board of directors' decision on March 18. The notification regarding the decision was delivered 55 days later.
