Another statement from the terrorist organization following the call from İmralı... Will a decision to lay down arms be made?

Following the meeting between the DEM Party delegation and PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı, a notable statement has come from Öcalan. 

Öcalan called on the organization to lay down its arms. Following this call, the PKK had announced that it had declared a ceasefire.

While there is curiosity about how the process will proceed following Öcalan's call, a clear statement has come from Mustafa Karasu, one of the so-called leaders of the terrorist organization. In a television program he attended, Karasu stated that Öcalan's statements are decisive for the PKK.

''WE ARE ACTING ON THE PATH HE HAS DRAWN''

Mustafa Karasu stated that the PKK was shaped by Öcalan, saying, “The PKK is a leadership movement. The leadership determines the ideology and policy of the PKK. We cannot represent this movement as a whole, but the leadership represents this movement as a whole.”

''WE WILL END THE ARMED STRUGGLE''

Karasu stated that the PKK's armed struggle would come to an end, making the following statement:

"We will carry out the transformation put forward by the leadership, the dissolution of the PKK, and the end of the armed struggle. Let no one have any hesitation about this. We have always acted on the path drawn by the leadership until today. It will be the same from now on. The state and the government also need to take steps toward democratization in this process without hiding behind excuses.”

THE PROCESS BEGAN WITH BAHÇELİ'S CALL

Following the call by MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, the DEM Party held a meeting with PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan at İmralı Prison on December 28, 2024. The party stated that the meeting took place in a sincere atmosphere and that the TBMM (Grand National Assembly of Turkey) is the most appropriate ground for solving the problem within the framework of democratic politics.

Following this meeting, contacts that began with TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş on January 3 were continued with the leaders and representatives of the MHP, Gelecek Party, AK Party, Saadet Party, CHP, DEVA Party, and Yeniden Refah Party. 

Following the aforementioned meetings, the DEM Party delegation met with PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı on December 28, 2024. The delegation stated that the meetings were promising. The second meeting between the İmralı Delegation and PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan took place on January 22.
