At the Central Executive Board meeting convened under the chairmanship of CHP leader Özgür Özel, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's statements regarding the debts of municipalities to the Social Security Institution (SGK) were discussed.

During the board meeting, it was stated that this stance is aimed at punishing the public, and the assessment was made that "the government that obstructs services will be punished by the public."

At the meeting, it was emphasized that the municipalities CHP took over from the AKP and MHP are under a much larger debt burden. Party officials commented, "Our municipalities may be in debt, but our services are met with high satisfaction by the public. This situation bothers Erdoğan. The public is being punished with steps such as closing daycare centers and restricting municipal revenues."

The latest developments in Syria and the situation of local administrations were also on the table at the meeting. The party leadership decided to continue receiving real-time updates regarding developments in the region. Additionally, the results of the mayoral meetings held in Ankara and Kilis were evaluated.

MHP CONTACT ALSO DISCUSSED

The meeting between the CHP and MHP was also on the agenda. During the discussion, which covered the appointment of trustees and constitutional debates, it was once again emphasized that the CHP will not be at the table for constitutional amendments. The impression was also shared that the MHP believes the practice of appointing trustees is wrong for a democratic Turkey.

The expulsion of Hatay Metropolitan Mayor Lütfü Savaş also came up at the Central Executive Board meeting. Party officials stated that while the CHP had supported Savaş in the past, his stance within the party has become a subject of criticism.
