The CHP has recently been facing investigations opened regarding both the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) and processes within the party.
Following the investigations conducted against Chairman Özgür Özel and IBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on charges of corruption and terrorism, the CHP had decided to hold an extraordinary convention on April 6, 2025.
POSSIBILITY OF A TRUSTEE HAS STRENGTHENED
However, claims that the court will make a decision to cancel the convention and that the party will be handed over to a trustee have strengthened in the corridors. It has been learned that the CHP administration is evaluating different scenarios in the face of these developments.
According to the report by Cengiz Anıl Bölükbaş from T24, while rumors are being heard that the convention will be canceled tomorrow, the appointment of a possible trustee is also being evaluated among the possibilities.
NAMES DISCUSSED FOR A POSSIBLE TRUSTEE HAVE BEEN REVEALED
It was alleged that Özgür Özel also had contacts with former Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu regarding this issue. While it is stated that Kılıçdaroğlu categorically rejects the appointment of a trustee to the party, the name of Istanbul Deputy Oğuz Kaan Salıcı is being mentioned in the corridors as a possible trustee.
However, Salıcı clearly rejected these claims and announced that he would not accept such a duty.
Speaking about the trustee claims in the CHP, İlhan Kesici and Gürsel Tekin had denied the claims.

Gürsel Tekin, on the other hand, had made the statement, "No Republican People's Party member would accept this. More precisely, it is not possible for a trustee to come to a political party that founded the state."
