Countdown to cabinet reshuffle begins... Erdoğan is waiting for June 3: A race for seats within the AKP!

It is claimed that President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is preparing for a comprehensive cabinet reshuffle in light of the loss of votes in public opinion polls and performance evaluations.

The reason behind the delay of the expected change from the first quarter of the year to the summer months has been reflected in the corridors as waiting for some ministers to become eligible for retirement.

JUNE 3 STANDS OUT AS THE KEY DATE

The Presidential Cabinet will complete its second year as of June 3, 2025. According to the regulations, a minister must have been in office for at least two years to be eligible for a retirement pension.

For this reason, it is being discussed that Erdoğan has decided to leave a comprehensive cabinet revision until after this date.

In the current cabinet, only two ministers — Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum and Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu — have not yet reached this criterion as they were appointed after June 3, 2023.

The fact that the other ministers will complete this requirement on June 3 strengthens the possibility that the cabinet revision will take place after this date.

WHO IS LEAVING AND WHO IS STAYING IN THE CABINET?

According to what is being discussed in the corridors, Erdoğan will part ways with some ministers based on public satisfaction levels and intra-party balance calculations. However, four names are considered certain to remain in their positions:

Mehmet Şimşek – Minister of Treasury and Finance

Hakan Fidan – Minister of Foreign Affairs

Murat Kurum – Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change

Kemal Memişoğlu – Minister of Health

It is stated that all ministerial seats other than these four names are open to change. New names are already being discussed in Ankara corridors, especially for ministries such as Transport, National Education, Interior, Justice, and Agriculture.

THE RACE WITHIN THE PARTY HAS BEGUN

It is stated that many names within the AKP who want to enter the cabinet have started lobbying activities through advisors close to Erdoğan. Increased competition is also observed among party organizations, members of parliament, and previous term administrators. The ministerial seats that are likely to change are of great importance in terms of both political balance and public satisfaction.
