The new solution process commission to be established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), which the government calls “Terror-Free Turkey,” has become the scene of naming debates before it has even begun. It was notable that MHP's Feti Yıldız used the term “Brotherhood and Solidarity Commission” in reference to the committee.

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) is establishing a 51-member commission as part of the new solution process announced by the government as “Terror-Free Turkey.” TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş sent a letter to political parties, giving them until 5:00 PM on Thursday, July 30, to determine their commission members.

The distribution of the commission will be as follows: AKP will be represented by 21 deputies, CHP by 10, DEM Party by 4, MHP by 4, IYI Party by 3, and New Way by 3. Some parties without a group in Parliament will also have one deputy each in the commission.

The MHP has determined the four names that will take part in the commission: Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız, Sakarya Deputy Muhammet Levent Bülbül, Kırıkkale Deputy Halil Öztürk, and Tokat Deputy Yücel Bulut.

Following a meeting with MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, Feti Yıldız made a notable statement on his social media account. In his post, Yıldız referred to the commission as the “Brotherhood and Solidarity Commission.” He used the following expressions in his statement:

“As members of the ‘brotherhood and solidarity commission’ established in the Veteran Parliament for a Terror-Free Turkey, we visited our Leader, Mr. Devlet Bahçeli, together with Mr. Bülbül, Mr. Öztürk, and Mr. Bulut to receive his orders and instructions. May our nation be assured.”

The opposition, however, is objecting not to the process of establishing the commission, but to the naming used. In a 16-page proposal file prepared a month ago, the CHP stated that the name “Terror-Free Turkey” is a political slogan and offered a more inclusive proposal. The alternative name proposed by the CHP is: “Social Peace, Justice, and Democratic Consensus Commission.”

Furthermore, the DEM Party front had previously opposed the “Terror-Free Turkey” naming.
