Explosive claim from CHP deputy: Are CHP members being monitored? 'It would shake the regime to its foundations'

CHP Deputy Chairman and Istanbul Deputy Özgür Karabat made explosive claims during a live broadcast on Halk TV. Karabat announced that they have received information suggesting that some CHP deputies are being subjected to technical and physical surveillance by the prosecutor's office.

In his statement, Karabat drew attention to the matter, saying, "There is another claim that has reached us. The prosecutor's office should first focus on this. Can a deputy be subjected to technical and physical surveillance within the scope of an investigation?"

"TRACKING A DEPUTY IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL"

Emphasizing the parliamentary immunity of deputies, Özgür Karabat said:

"A prosecutor's office does not even have the direct right to investigate a deputy; it is subject to special rules, and there is legislative immunity. Except in cases of being caught in the act, it is clearly unlawful for a deputy to be subjected to technical or physical surveillance."

Karabat stated that such practices are also contrary to the principle of separation of powers.

CHP's Karabat expressed that these allegations are of a nature that could damage Turkey's democratic regime, stating, "This is the modern version of the 'Toros' mentality; it is a step that shakes the regime to its foundations."

Continuing his statement, Karabat also drew attention to the independence of the judiciary, saying, "Yes, the judiciary has independence. But in the same way, the legislature also has independence and immunity. The procedural rules that apply to everyone must also be applied to deputies. No one has the freedom to commit crimes, but everyone has the right to be treated in accordance with the law."

Özgür Karabat stated that they hope these allegations reflected in the public eye are unfounded, adding, "I hope it is not true, but these things are being talked about, and they are reaching us."
