Financial ties behind the attack on Özgür Özel are being investigated! Bank accounts under scrutiny

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, who attended the ceremony held at the AKM for the late Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and DEM Party Istanbul MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder, was subjected to a physical assault upon leaving the AKM.

HE KILLED HIS TWO CHILDREN AND WAS RELEASED ON PAROLE

As the CHP leader clutched his head and collapsed toward the ground following the attack, his close protection team immediately intervened against the assailant. It was revealed that the detained attacker is 66-year-old Selçuk Tengioğlu, who murdered two of his children and injured two others in 2004. It was learned that the killer, who received a life sentence, was released on parole in 2020.

While the attack drew reactions from all segments of society, eyes have turned to the identity and background of the attacker.

BANK ACCOUNTS ARE BEING EXAMINED

According to the report on Mynet; the attacker's bank accounts are being examined. The police, investigating the 'suspicion of financial gain' regarding the attack, are specifically looking into whether there are any financial elements behind the incident.

It was learned that the police have deepened their investigation in this direction.

DETENTION PERIOD EXTENDED

Meanwhile, the detention period for the attacker in custody has been extended by 1 day, and his initial statement has also emerged.

In a written statement from the Prosecutor's Office, it was stated, "The suspect's detention period has been extended for one day for the time being in the context of deepening the investigation; information will be provided regarding developments."

INITIAL STATEMENT: I HEARD THERE WAS A PROGRAM

Attacker Selçuk Tengioğlu said in his initial statement that he heard about the program and left the hotel where he was staying.

It was learned that Tengioğlu testified, "I previously applied to the Republican People's Party for a food card, but they did not give me food because I was not a party member. Because of this, I had been angry for a long time. I was harboring the anger I had built up regarding the CHP calling young people to the streets. I left the apartment hotel where I was staying in Taksim; I heard there was a program. When I went there, I actually had no intention of attacking, but as soon as I saw him, I could not control my temper."

HE DRANK TEA AND CHATTED BEFORE THE ATTACK

Footage of Tengioğlu at the hotel where he was staying in Beyoğlu before the attack had also emerged. It was seen that Tengioğlu had spent some time drinking tea and chatting before leaving the hotel.
