While discussions regarding a 'new peace process' continue, the appointment of trustees to a total of 9 municipalities since October—2 from the CHP and 7 from the DEM Party—has become one of the hottest topics on the agenda.

Most recently, the detention of Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat has turned attention back to CHP-run municipalities.

Halk TV programmer and journalist Barış Pehlivan stated that CHP-run municipalities are being targeted in the process carried out under the name of "urban consensus."

Stating that the main objective is Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Pehlivan said, "The ultimate goal of these moves against CHP-run municipalities is to politically wear down İmamoğlu."

The situation of Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat, who was detained yesterday morning, has also caused a major stir within the CHP. Party officials reacted to the process, stating that the appointment of trustees harms democracy and disregards the will of the people.
