He had replaced Hakan Bahçetepe... New scandal from Eray Karadeniz: Now he has removed Atatürk!
AKP member Eray Karadeniz, who replaced the arrested Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe, has caused a new scandal. Karadeniz, who previously made headlines with his posts defending FETÖ, has now removed the portrait of Atatürk from the office.
Hakan Bahçetepe, who was elected mayor from the CHP in the March 31 local elections in Gaziosmanpaşa, was detained on May 31 during the fifth wave of operations targeting CHP-run municipalities and was arrested and sent to prison on June 4. Following this development, AKP candidate Eray Karadeniz was elected acting mayor through a vote in the Gaziosmanpaşa Municipal Council.
The first moves Karadeniz made after being elected acting mayor became the target of criticism for his acting as if he were an elected mayor. Karadeniz, who was added to the official Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality website with the title of "Mayor," was forced to change his title to "Acting Mayor" following the backlash.
Furthermore, all news regarding the services performed by the municipality during the Bahçetepe era was removed from the site. Only the content titled "Warm welcome for Karadeniz from the people of Gaziosmanpaşa" remained on the site.
HIS OLD POSTS HAVE SURFACED
Karadeniz's past social media posts also continue to be a topic of discussion. It was revealed that he used expressions defending FETÖ, particularly during the conspiracy process against Fenerbahçe in 2012. In a post from that period, Karadeniz had used the following expressions:
“There are people who believe that a community that serves by going to countries whose locations you cannot even point out on a map and opening schools is trying to take over Fenerbahçe.”
Additionally, his post regarding the dish 'maklube' also drew attention. In that message, Karadeniz had stated, “I couldn't make it to the cağ kebab, but I won't miss the maklube. My name is Eray; if I say I'm coming for maklube, I come.” These posts were deleted following the backlash.
Following all these controversies, Karadeniz has come to the agenda with another new scandal. A joint post made through the official social media account of the Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality and Karadeniz's personal account caused a reaction. In the post, while Karadeniz wrote, “We evaluated the needs of our district at the coordination meeting we held with our Deputy Mayors. We are working for more effective and qualified service for our neighbors...”, it was seen that the portrait of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, had been removed from the background.
