Is a new party being formed in Parliament? Fatih Altaylı explains: 'Erdoğan will want him to form a new party'
Gelecek Party member Selçuk Özdağ, who visited Fatih Altaylı at Silivri Prison, evaluated the resignations within his party. Arguing that the AKP is losing votes, Özdağ stated that the breakaway deputies could form a new party.
Gelecek Party Parliamentary Group Deputy Chairman Selçuk Özdağ, CHP İzmir Deputy Ümit Özlale, and Anahtar Party Chairman Yavuz Ağıralioğlu visited journalist Fatih Altaylı, who is being held at Silivri Marmara Prison. The details of the visits were shared on Altaylı's YouTube channel.
"AKP'S VOTE HAS SLIPPED TOWARD 20 PERCENT"
Stating that he discussed predictions for the future of politics with Gelecek Party's Selçuk Özdağ, Altaylı said, "He explained that there is a massive loss of blood in the AKP, that their base vote has slipped toward 20 percent, and that they have become completely disconnected from society. He noted that AKP deputies can no longer go out on the streets. He said, 'There are good, decent friends of ours in the AKP who are aware of what is happening, but they have no influence. They watch what is happening and feel ashamed. As for Mr. Tayyip, I don't think he is aware of what is happening or the reality of the country. He doesn't know the situation on the street or in the kitchen. Because he doesn't know, he cannot produce effective politics as he used to.'"
"THE AKP OR ERDOĞAN WILL WANT THEM TO FORM A NEW PARTY"
Altaylı, stating that Özdağ conveyed that the CHP is being managed well, is handling the tension effectively, and that Özel has passed a very successful test, said, "When I asked, 'What happens if İmamoğlu becomes banned?', he laughed and said, 'There is definitely an alternative, but there is no need to explain it today. Because I worry that an operation would be carried out against that too.' I also asked about the names who broke away from the Gelecek Party. 'They had their own reasons; it was not unexpected,' he said. I asked, 'Will they join the AKP?' He said, 'I don't think so.' He added, 'I think the AKP or Erdoğan will want them to form a new party. There is a possibility of them forming a new party.' Meanwhile, I learned that there is at least one deputy likely to join the New Path group. An honest, democratic, and freedom-loving individual."
AĞIRALİOĞLU: THEY LEFT THE MHP AND CAME TO US
Stating that Anahtar Party Chairman Ağıralioğlu came to visit with four of his party executive friends, Altaylı shared notes from his meeting with the following remarks:
"We sat for about an hour. For half an hour, I had stomach pains from laughing. Mr. Yavuz is undoubtedly the most entertaining conservative nationalist I have ever seen, who observes issues very well and can mock them. He was happy and pleased because his party has started to become visible in polls. He started the conversation by saying, 'In three days, 300 new members joined in Istanbul alone, and they left the MHP and came to us.' He attributed these arrivals to the MHP elevating Öcalan—whom they have called a 'baby killer and separatist leader' for years—to the level of a 'founding leader'."
"COOPERATION WITH THE ZAFER PARTY WOULD NOT GAIN US ANYTHING"
Ağıralioğlu spoke clearly about unification or electoral cooperation in the nationalist field: "We talked with Ümit Özdağ. The İYİ Party is a party I was already involved in founding. Let me tell you what I told Özdağ: Merging with the Zafer Party or forming an electoral alliance would not gain anything for us or them. On the contrary, it would cause both of us to lose votes. Let us walk alone for a while first and see the results, and how far we can go. We will look at cooperation later. Currently, we are polling between 1.5 and 3 percent. If this reaches five, it could increase exponentially. We want to see this," he said.
"WHY NOT WITH DEVA OR SAADET?"
Upon my persistent questions about cooperation, he said, "Not with the Zafer or İYİ Party, but why not with DEVA or Saadet? For example, when I am asked a question about the economy, I say, 'I think like Ali Babacan.' Mr. Ali is an important asset to this country, but he is not a politician. I would like Babacan to be in the future of this country, but DEVA does not produce politics. Mr. Ali prefers to work on solutions rather than dedicating time to politics. With us, DEVA would be saved from being a PDF party. They have a solution proposal for every problem and a PDF that visualizes it, but they are very inward-looking and very dull politically. Yet, this country needs Mr. Ali."
"A STAIN LEFT BY SİNAN OĞAN AND MERAL AKŞENER"
When Ağıralioğlu claimed that they were the party that would harvest the most votes from the AKP, I raised the question I asked in our last conversation, namely the concern felt about them. I said that everyone thinks his party is supported by the AKP or that it will eventually support the AKP. I even said there are those who claim the AKP is supporting the party financially. He cut me off: "This is a stain left on us by Sinan Oğan and Meral Akşener. Because of them, everyone has this concern. They are right. They think we will also take 50 million dollars and sell out the voters. Well, let me ask you this: Do you think the AKP has never invited me until today? Did I go? Think about 2023. Why did I break away from the İYİ Party? Because they were going to nominate Kılıçdaroğlu. Well, wasn't Kılıçdaroğlu the candidate the AKP wanted? If I were the AKP's man, would I have fought at the cost of leaving the party to prevent Kılıçdaroğlu from being nominated?" he said. He concluded with a pithy sentence: "I will not approach the AKP. Because I know that he who takes refuge in a shadow has no shadow of his own."
