Izmir Metropolitan Municipality reveals who initiated the operations: A 119-page report was prepared

As part of the operation conducted under the instructions of the Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, more than 120 people, including former Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer and CHP İzmir Provincial Chair Şenol Aslanoğlu, were detained.

It was claimed in the public sphere that the operation was initiated by a criminal complaint from the current Mayor, Cemil Tugay. However, this information was denied by both Tugay and journalist Kıvanç El.

CIVIL SERVICE INSPECTORS PREPARED A 119-PAGE REPORT

Journalist Kıvanç El announced in a statement on his social media account that the operation was based on an investigation initiated by the Ministry of Interior, not by Cemil Tugay. El stated that a 119-page report, prepared following the work initiated by Civil Service Inspectors on April 22, 2024, was sent to the prosecutor's office and that the investigation was opened in line with this report.

El said, “The entire report contains findings and testimonies regarding İZBETON. The claim in the pro-government media that ‘Tugay filed a complaint’ is not true.”

SOYER'S TESTIMONY WAS ALSO TAKEN

According to El, the inspectors took the testimonies of Tunç Soyer, Heval Barış Kaya, and various municipal officials as part of the investigation. In line with the testimonies and findings in the report, the prosecutor's office took action and issued the operation order.

CEMİL TUGAY: WE DID NOT FILE A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT

Reacting to the claims, Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay had said, “This is a slander. We did not file any criminal complaint. Among those detained are valuable names from our current staff. There is an unfair accusation here.”
