Major shock for Erdoğan in his hometown! He is losing even in his stronghold
According to the results of the latest polls conducted in Rize, the hometown of President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, a significant decline has been observed in his party's votes. The AKP's votes have also melted away nationwide. Here are the poll results...
A poll conducted by ORC Research, which is close to the government, in 12 provinces last week has revealed the political decline the AKP has experienced in recent years. The CHP, which became the leading party by a wide margin over the AKP after 22 years in the March 31, 2024, local elections, continues to remain at the top in subsequent polls. Failures in economic policies and deepening poverty have caused the AKP to lose public support.
THE RISE OF THE CHP CONTINUES
The rise of the CHP following Özgür Özel's assumption of the chairmanship stems from both the popularity of Ekrem İmamoğlu and the public's changing preferences due to economic hardships. It is noteworthy that in polls conducted after the local elections, the CHP has surpassed the AKP in almost all provinces.
The poll conducted by ORC Research between August 16-20 highlighted the losses of the AKP, particularly in provinces it won in the 2023 general elections. In key provinces such as Istanbul, Ankara, and Rize, the AKP has begun to lose its first-place position.
The AKP, which ranked first in Istanbul with 36.06 percent in the 2023 general elections, lost 5 points in the latest poll, falling to 31.7 percent. Meanwhile, the CHP, which was in second place in Istanbul with 28.33 percent in 2023, rose to 31.07 percent in this poll and took the first spot.
CHP AT THE TOP IN ANKARA
The AKP's loss in Ankara is also remarkable. The AKP, which ranked first in Ankara with 32.53 percent in the 2023 elections, fell to second place this time with 30.09 percent. The CHP, which received 30.56 percent of the vote in the 2023 elections, became the leading party in the latest poll by rising to 32.5 percent.
SHOCKING LOSS IN RİZE: A 10 PERCENT DROP IN ERDOĞAN'S HOMETOWN
However, one of the most striking points of the poll was the major loss experienced in Rize, the hometown of AKP President Erdoğan. The AKP, which came in first in Rize with 53.4 percent of the vote in the 2023 general elections, fell to 43.9 percent in the latest poll, losing approximately 10 points. On the other hand, while the CHP's vote share in Rize was 21.46 percent in the 2023 elections, it rose to 23.02 percent in the latest poll.
