New instruction to MPs from CHP leader Özgür Özel: 'We have entered this, we will bear the consequences'
In a closed-door parliamentary group meeting, CHP leader Özgür Özel brought up the issue of parliamentary summaries of proceedings (fezlekeler) and stated, "We have entered this." Calling for increased attendance in Parliament, Özel instructed MPs to be in the field throughout the summer "as if it were an election period."
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel spoke clearly about the dossiers regarding the lifting of parliamentary immunities during a closed-door group meeting held with his party's MPs at the headquarters.
According to information obtained by Cumhuriyet, in response to suggestions from some MPs that "we should also make the accusations directed at our friends who have received dossiers," Özel reportedly said, "The dossiers are not a matter to be blown out of proportion. They can lift the immunities as they wish. We have entered this path. We will bear the consequences."
"NO NEGOTIATION, THERE IS A TOUGH STRUGGLE"
Calling on MPs to participate more actively in parliamentary work during the meeting, Özel said, "Increase participation in the General Assembly. These operations have become a breaking point. From now on, we will not seek negotiation in parliament. A tough struggle will be waged."
While emphasizing that the CHP's stance has become clear and that there will be no step back, Özel called for determination in both political struggle and social opposition.
The CHP leader gave a clear instruction to MPs to be in the field throughout the summer. Stating, "Except for emergencies, you will all be in the field as if it were an election period," it was noted that Özel would hold a camp for MPs for the summer term before Parliament goes on recess.
It was also emphasized at the meeting that the CHP will continue to hold rallies in a different province every week until January. It was noted that Özel said regarding this, "There is no giving up, we will continue at the same tempo."
OPERATIONS AND THE "BY-ELECTION" DEBATE
In the meeting where operations targeting the Antalya, Adana, and Adıyaman municipalities were also evaluated extensively, it was learned that some MPs brought up the "by-election" proposal. However, it was stated that this formula did not receive broad support at the meeting and no decision was made.
The CHP leadership reached a consensus on pursuing a strong and continuous opposition strategy against the current political climate.
CONGRESS CASE LEFT OFF THE AGENDA
It was stated that the congress case, which will be heard on September 8, was also brought up at the meeting, but Özel closed this topic by saying, "Let's not talk about the congress process anymore." It was reported that Özel, stating that the case would be postponed, requested that the subject be removed from the agenda with this information.
While it was stated that all MPs attending the meeting supported Özgür Özel, it was reported that no dissenting voices were raised.
At the end of the meeting, it was noted that Özel said, "We have held many meetings until today, but seeing the CHP in such unity today made me very happy. I thank you all."
