According to a poll conducted by Türkiye Raporu, 60 percent of the public believes that Ekrem İmamoğlu should be tried without arrest. A significant portion of the participants predicts that as long as the AKP remains in power, İmamoğlu will not be released.

In a poll conducted by Türkiye Raporu between May 2-6, 2025, with 2,000 people, the pulse of society was measured regarding the arrest of CHP's presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

According to the poll, 60 percent of participants believe that İmamoğlu should be tried without arrest. Two out of every 5 participants think that İmamoğlu's detention will continue as long as the AKP remains in power.

60 percent of participants believe that İmamoğlu should be tried without arrest.

While 54% of voters who voted for the AK Party in the 2023 general elections stated that İmamoğlu should be tried while in custody, this rate rises to 61% among those who say they would vote for the AK Party in an election held this Sunday.

While the vast majority of undecided voters say that İmamoğlu should be tried without arrest, this rate is 13 points lower among those who state they will not vote.

Participants who said that İmamoğlu should be tried while in custody were also asked for the reason behind this view.

Most participants think he should be tried while in custody because they believe İmamoğlu should serve his sentence. While 36 percent of the group stated that he should be tried while in custody because there is a suspicion of tampering with evidence, the rate of those who answered "because there is a suspicion of flight" is only 14 percent.

Two out of every 5 participants think that İmamoğlu's detention will continue as long as the AKP remains in power.

While 1 out of every 5 participants thinks he will be released after the next general elections, the rate of those who think he will be released at the first hearing remained at the 14 percent level.

A significant portion of the participants (24%) did not express an opinion on the matter.
