New steps in CHP after the extraordinary convention: 2 plans by party executives draw attention
Having completed its convention process, the CHP is preparing to ramp up its call for early elections. The party plans to expand the signature campaign launched for Ekrem İmamoğlu and to mobilize for rallies across Turkey. Here are the new plans of the CHP leadership following the extraordinary convention...
The Republican People's Party (CHP), having completed its 21st Extraordinary Congress and refreshed its mandate, has turned its focus toward the demand for early elections and the signature campaign launched for Ekrem İmamoğlu, who has been at the center of discussions regarding the presidential candidacy.
Party sources announced that the signature campaign will be expanded, direct contact will be established with citizens, and rallies will be organized every week in a district of Istanbul and a different city in Turkey.
TARGET: EARLY ELECTION
Following the extraordinary congress held against the risk of a trustee being appointed within the party, Özgür Özel and the CHP leadership have taken action to voice their calls for early elections more strongly.
According to the report by Cumhuriyet, CHP provincial chairs and strategists have prepared a comprehensive action plan both to expand the signature campaign launched for the freedom of Ekrem İmamoğlu and to loudly voice their demands for early elections.
''SIGNATURES WILL BE BROUGHT TO HOMES''
Provincial chairs announced that they will accelerate field activities to increase citizen participation in the signature campaign launched for Ekrem İmamoğlu. In this context, it was stated that home visits in neighborhoods will be increased, stands will be set up on streets and squares, and party organizations will take signature forms directly to citizens' homes upon request.
CHP strategists stated that the number of signatures collected so far has exceeded 7 million and that their goal is to reach 30 million. Expressing that this number would mean a "vote of no confidence" in the government, the strategists said, "More than 15 million citizens went to the polls during the primary election process. Now we are targeting similar participation in the signature campaign. 30 million signatures will demonstrate that the government has lost its legitimacy and cannot escape the ballot box."
RALLY SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED
The CHP will continue to be in the field not only with the signature campaign but also with rallies. According to the party's plan, large rallies will be held every week in a different district of Istanbul and every weekend in a province of Turkey. The first rally will be held in Istanbul's Şişli district on Tuesday, April 9, followed by Samsun on Sunday, April 14. A major rally in İzmir will be held on May 19, the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day.
ÖZGÜR ÖZEL WILL LEAD
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel will personally take an active role in announcing both the signature campaign and the rallies to the public and in coordinating the actions. The party leadership is determined to keep the dissatisfaction with the government constantly visible through various means.
This new strategy of the CHP aims both to mobilize the base and to keep the public's demands for early elections on the agenda.
