Tanju Özcan responds to Davutoğlu's 'Yezid' remark: 'You are doing backflips to return to the AKP...'

A heated polemic involving harsh language has broken out between Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu and Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan. The remarks Davutoğlu made about Özcan during a television program have raised tensions in politics.

Ahmet Davutoğlu made statements targeting Tanju Özcan during a program he attended on the Haberler.com YouTube channel. Davutoğlu stated, "If the presidential election had been won, it means they would have applied revanchism to us first. They could not tolerate it. My only intention was not to let Turkey fall into a trap of revanchism. Is that danger over? It is not over yet."

Stating that he exempts some figures within the CHP, Davutoğlu said, "But there is a mayor, a shameless man, the man who cuts off the water of poor, oppressed refugees... This is Yezid morality, like cutting off the water of Hz. Hussein at Karbala... This man with Yezid morality has criticized me."

"EVEN WE COULD NOT BE TOLERATED WITHIN THE CHP"

Continuing his speech, Davutoğlu argued that there is intolerance in some segments of the CHP, saying, "We see what this logic, the CHP logic that could not even tolerate us, could lead to in 2028." Furthermore, criticizing Tanju Özcan for his past attitudes toward his own party leader, he said, "This is the man who showed up at his own party leader's door with a truck. What does it matter if he criticizes or not."

Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan responded to Ahmet Davutoğlu's words via social media. In his post, Özcan stated, "The shameless one who calls me a 'shameless man'; you turned Turkey into a farm for asylum seekers, you fled with the Tomb of Suleyman Shah."

Özcan expressed the following in his statement regarding Davutoğlu:

"When you were kicked out of the AKP, you deceived Kılıçdaroğlu and latched onto the CHP; now you are doing somersaults to return to the AKP. Then you stand up and call a patriot a 'shameless man'! Get out of here."
