Former CHP Chairman Hikmet Çetin paid a surprise visit to MHP Leader Devlet Bahçeli on September 2. The MHP Headquarters shared on its social media account that Hikmet Çetin had visited Devlet Bahçeli and noted that the meeting lasted approximately one hour.

Speaking after the meeting between the two, Çetin had stated that the visit was a courtesy call and that although Turkey was not yet ready for a CHP-MHP coalition, it would be successful. 

According to the report by İpek Özbey, during the meeting between the two, Çetin told Bahçeli, 'Intervene in this matter, what is being done is political.' In response, Bahçeli used the expressions, 'I am already saying to end this matter as soon as possible. Feti Yıldız is handling this issue.'

Mr. Hikmet Çetin stated that Turkey is currently moving outside the rule of law, that Turkey is drifting away from democracy, and that what is currently being done is taking on a political rather than a legal direction, and that he should demonstrate his sensitivity on this issue. He called on Mr. Devlet to take a stance. He expressed that these unlawful conditions cannot be sustained, that his knowledge and experience on this matter are important, and that if he displays a new stance, Turkey's future would be brighter. He added, 'If it continues like this, no one will be able to engage in politics.'

Hikmet Çetin was asked whether he had called Kılıçdaroğlu or Gürsel Tekin following the decision to appoint a trustee in Istanbul. Çetin replied that there would be no benefit in calling either Kılıçdaroğlu or Tekin.
