The diploma cancellation decision regarding Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu was made on March 19, just one day before he was taken into custody. However, Istanbul University has been unable to officially serve this decision to İmamoğlu and 28 other individuals, despite 50 days having passed.

Istanbul University Rector Prof. Dr. Osman Bülent Zülfikar made a statement regarding why the notification could not be completed.

According to the report by Alican Uludağ from Now Haber, Zülfikar stated, "We do not have the population records and current addresses of 28 people. Therefore, we are waiting for their notification addresses. For those whose information is complete, the cancellation procedures began last week."
