In a controversial social media post, Çamlı targeted the Republican regime, stating, "A noble nation and a great state with an ancient history cannot advance on the path to a new, terror-free, and great state without settling accounts and seeking reconciliation regarding the bloody 1923 coup."

While this statement drew reactions from broad segments of society, the CHP filed a criminal complaint against Çamlı and called on prosecutors to take action.

Before the controversy subsided, Çamlı made another statement that drew backlash. In a poll he conducted on his social media account regarding Abdullah Öcalan, he asked, "Can the CHP leadership, which produces Öcalans, make the historic repentance that PKK leader Öcalan has made?"

In response to one of the reactions under this post, a user wrote, "The baby-killing traitor who murdered 50,000 people will repent, and you will boast about it. May God damn you."
