Gelecek, Saadet, and DEVA reach an agreement: Here is the name of the new party! Who will be the Chairman?
The Gelecek, Saadet, and DEVA parties are preparing to submit their establishment petition for an 'umbrella party' to the Ministry of Interior on January 10 or January 13. Meanwhile, the name of the new party to be established has also been determined.
The commission formed by the Gelecek, Saadet, and DEVA parties is nearing the completion of its work toward establishing an umbrella party. While various options were evaluated for the new party's name, "Yeni Yol" (New Path) emerged as one of the leading preferences. Additionally, care is being taken to ensure the word "party" is not included in the name.
THE CHAIRMAN WILL NOT BE A MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT
While it is planned to select 13 founding members from each party, a founding cadre of 39 or 40 people in total will be formed. It has been decided that a person who is not a member of parliament will be appointed as the chairman of the new party.
PARLIAMENTARY WORK WILL CONTINUE UNDER THE NEW PARTY UMBRELLA
The Saadet, Gelecek, and DEVA parties will maintain their legal entities and continue their existence. However, the members of parliament from these parties will submit a petition to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) to notify that they wish to continue their political activities within the new party. In this way, a new party group will be formed and parliamentary work will begin.
The establishment petition for the umbrella party is planned to be submitted to the Ministry of Interior on January 10 or 13. Following this, Gelecek Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu, Saadet Party Chairman Mahmut Arıkan, and DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan are expected to make a joint public statement.
SOME MPS ARE RESERVED ABOUT THE DECISION
The Saadet Party has 9, the DEVA Party has 12, and the Gelecek Party has 9 members of parliament. However, it is being discussed in the lobbies that 1 or 2 MPs from each party will not join the new umbrella party and will continue their work in their current parties. It is alleged that these MPs are opposed to the umbrella party idea and that some recent resignations occurred for this reason.
