Gökhan Günaydın reacts to Kılıçdaroğlu's 'dagger' remark

The 38th Ordinary Congress of the Republican People's Party (CHP) began at 10:00 AM.

On the first day of the congress, chaired by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, the election for the party chairmanship will take place, while the elections for the Party Assembly and the High Disciplinary Board will be held on the second day.

Delivering the opening speech of the congress, incumbent Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu referred to the process leading up to the presidential elections and, without naming names, said, "I had to enter the election with a dagger in my back."

CHP Istanbul MP Gökhan Günaydın made exclusive statements to Kardelen İnce from 12punto regarding Kılıçdaroğlu's much-discussed remark.

"HE SHOULD CLARIFY HIS WORDS"

"I think it would be beneficial for the Chairman to clarify his words," said Günaydın, adding, "Because before May 14, I ran around in industrial sites, neighborhoods, and streets until the last drop of my blood. Everyone did the same. We had friends who held three or four rallies a day. After May 14, everyone was sent to different parts of Turkey. For example, I was in the Bahçesaray district of Van. Therefore, we worked in those places. We had no time to betray anyone. We had no such will either."

"THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ARE WONDERING 'WHO STABBED HIM?'"

Stating that they all worked together for Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to become president, Günaydın said, "If the Chairman thinks that someone or some people betrayed him and stabbed him in the back, it would be good if he said 'this person, that person.' Because there are thousands of people in this congress hall right now, and everyone is wondering who stabbed him. Therefore, the person who will clarify this issue is the Chairman himself."

Günaydın continued his remarks as follows:

"If he is saying that this came from within the Table of Six, then the establishment, design, and management style of the Table of Six... Isn't that so? The six leaders were among themselves, and we watched them all from the outside.

"A CHP LEADER DOES NOT HAVE TO SWALLOW ANYTHING"

A CHP leader does not have to swallow anything; a CHP leader takes the organization behind him and marches forward decisively. Do you understand? Therefore, we lost this election.

We all fought together until the last drop of our blood and we lost. What should we all do together from now on to avoid losing elections? How should we emerge from this congress together? We will account for this.

In other words, we cannot get anywhere by labeling this person or that person as 'this' or 'that'.

We will elect a chairman here on Saturday evening. And on Sunday evening, we will elect our Party Assembly list. After that, we will continue to fight together until the last drop of our blood.

No one in this congress hall is looking at me with hostility. And no one is my enemy. We are here together with our comrades, and we will continue to be together."
