Gökhan Zan's candidacy sparks crisis: Mass resignation in TİP
Following the announcement of former national football player Gökhan Zan as the Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) candidate for Hatay Metropolitan Municipality, resignations in protest have emerged within the party.
The Workers' Party of Turkey's (TİP) nomination of Gökhan Zan as its candidate for Hatay Metropolitan Municipality has led to resignations within the party.
MASS RESIGNATION
In a statement made on behalf of the party's district administration, it was stated: "As the TİP Tarsus District Organization, we have been carrying out our party's work for months with limited resources. While we set out with the claim of saving our people from the deadlock between the government and the opposition, at the point we have reached, our party is also contributing to this state of deadlock. While we claim to stand against the opposition of other parties that constantly point to the ballot box in a country where even the Constitution is not implemented, the party is introducing candidates with daily populist approaches. Today, the result shown by Gökhan Zan's candidacy is the reality that this has actually become party policy."
"IMPOSITION OF CANDIDACY..."
Emphasizing that "TİP's constant imposition of candidacy through popular figures is contrary to the party's purpose of existence," the statement continued: "Because what we will do from now on will be no different from the parties called 'establishment politics,' we hereby announce that we are resigning from all our current duties and party membership as the Workers' Party of Turkey Tarsus District Organization."
