Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek, and Minister of Interior Mustafa Çiftçi are traveling to Belgium for ministerial-level contacts between Turkey and Belgium.
As part of the visit scheduled for October 19-21, the ministers are planned to attend the Fourth Turkey-Belgium Foreign, Justice, and Interior Ministers Meeting to be held in Brussels on October 20.
According to information obtained from Foreign Ministry sources, the fourth round of the mechanism, which last met in Ankara in 2016, will evaluate areas of cooperation between the two countries. The discussions will cover counter-terrorism, judicial and police cooperation, the defense industry, consular services, visas, and migration. Regional and international developments will also be on the meeting's agenda.
It was reported that the Belgian delegation will include Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot, Minister of Interior Bernard Quintin, Minister of Justice Annelies Verlinden, and Minister of Asylum and Migration Anneleen Van Bossuyt.
During his visit to Brussels, Fidan is expected to hold separate meetings with European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. Fidan is also scheduled to deliver a speech at the European Policy Center and meet with representatives of the business world.
On the economic front of the visit, the goal of increasing the Turkey-Belgium trade volume stands out. While the trade volume between the two countries was recorded at $9.2 billion in 2025, it is stated that the target is $15 billion. The approximately 300 thousand Turkish citizens living in Belgium are also considered an important element in the relations between the two countries.
