CHP member Berhan Şimşek made statements regarding internal party debates and the potential departure of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş from the CHP during a visit to Bilecik.
During a visit to congratulate the newly appointed CHP Bilecik Provincial Chair Kazım Yağmur and his board members, Şimşek touched upon parties formed by those who left the CHP. Stating that 12 political parties have been founded by those who left the CHP since 1946, Şimşek argued that these structures remain outside of political life today.
Stating that the CHP is a 103-year-old political tradition, Şimşek expressed that the party is "not a structure that can be managed through popular culture and social media."
Şimşek also responded to Mansur Yavaş's criticism of an "arrogant perspective." While stating that Yavaş is a mayor accepted by society and that they have not seen any weaknesses regarding him to date, Şimşek remarked that Yavaş has "attached too many wings to himself."
Let me say this to Mr. Mansur here: those who fly too close to the sun burn their wings, do not rise too high. You became mayor for two terms thanks to the CHP electorate.
Noting that Yavaş received a high number of votes in Ankara, Şimşek said, "Those who say 'I' in politics always lose. Those who say 'we' also lose; one must say 'all of us'."
In his remarks, Şimşek also evaluated the relationship between Ekrem İmamoğlu and Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, claiming that Kılıçdaroğlu "burned bridges" with İmamoğlu in 2022. Şimşek also leveled criticisms at Özgür Özel.
Berhan Şimşek had recently resigned from his membership in the CHP's Central Executive Board (MYK) following reactions to the release of footage showing him physically assaulting Özlem Şanver, with whom he was living.
