He had announced his candidacy: Dursun Çiçek stops collecting signatures
Dursun Çiçek, who is no longer collecting signatures to run in the primary election to determine the CHP's presidential candidate, stated that the process was interrupted due to his wife's illness and said he would resume collecting signatures for his candidacy if an extension is granted.
In the primary election to be held by the Republican People's Party (CHP) to determine its presidential candidate, former CHP Istanbul MP Dursun Çiçek announced that he has stopped collecting signatures for his candidacy. Çiçek stated that he interrupted the signature collection process due to his wife's illness, but that he could complete the process and continue in the candidacy race if an extension is granted.
It is stated that in the primary election where the CHP will determine its presidential candidate, individuals who wish to run must obtain the signatures of at least 20 members of parliament to apply. In a statement on February 20, Dursun Çiçek announced that he could not complete this process due to his wife's health and had to return to Istanbul.
In his statement to Habertürk, Çiçek said, "If they grant an extension, I will continue to collect signatures. For now, my wife's health is more important. If there is an extension, I will continue in the candidacy race."
İMAMOĞLU HAD FILED HIS APPLICATION
On the other hand, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has also filed his application for the primary. İmamoğlu's application was carried out by his lawyer, Mehmet Pehlivan. Making a statement after the application, İmamoğlu said, "We are embarking on a journey with our nation, which deserves to live humanely and longs for freedom, justice, prosperity, and unity."
