Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Aras, who announced he would continue his duties as an independent after resigning from the CHP, published a congratulatory message for Nail Kızıl, who was elected provincial chair at the YENİ Party Muğla Provincial Congress.
In a post on his social media account, Aras conveyed his best wishes to Kızıl and the new administration. In his post, he stated, "I congratulate Mr. Nail Kızıl, who was elected Provincial Chair at the YENİ Party Muğla Provincial Congress, and wish him and his new administration success in their duties. I hope the results of the congress will be beneficial for our Muğla and our country."
Journalist Sinan Burhan, who is close to the government, had claimed that in a meeting with a CHP deputy chairman, he was told that Aras would join the AKP.
Ahmet Aras announced his resignation from the CHP on October 16, citing the political debates surrounding him as the reason for his resignation, stating that they were overshadowing municipal services. Aras had declared that he would continue his duties as an independent mayor, saying, "My side is Muğla."
