He had said 'I am one of the victims': The amount of money AKP's Zeybekci had left in the fund has been revealed

In the fund crisis that came to the agenda following the Capital Markets Board's (SPK) liquidation decision regarding certain investment funds, it has emerged that AKP Deputy Chairman Nihat Zeybekçi also had money left in the system.

In a statement to journalist İsmail Saymaz, Zeybekci said that he had directed a portion of the investments of 4 companies he is a partner in to the Money Market Fund named TP2, which belongs to Tera Portföy. Stating that the money remained in the system after the liquidation decision, Zeybekci said, "I am also one of the 455 thousand victims."

While the amount in question was a subject of curiosity, journalist Cengiz Er had claimed that Zeybekci's loss was close to 2.5 billion TL. Journalist İsmail Saymaz, on the other hand, shared the details of his meeting with Zeybekci on Sözcü TV. According to this, it was stated that the money Zeybekci had left in the system was approximately 250 million TL.

Zeybekci argued that the fund they invested in should not be confused with the stock funds belonging to the same company. He stated that Money Market Funds provide a monthly return of between 3.5 percent and 4.5 percent, similar to deposit interest.

SPK'S LIQUIDATION SCHEDULE

On September 17, the SPK made a liquidation decision regarding funds that had come to the agenda with price movements contrary to reality and artificial valuations; it announced that transactions in 131 investment funds belonging to 7 companies had been completely halted.

In the liquidation schedule announced by the Board at midnight, it was reported that the first priority would be given to Money Market Funds. It was stated that these funds, which consist mostly of company shares traded on the stock exchange, can be converted into cash more quickly, and therefore, it is expected that Money Market Fund (PPF) investors will reach their receivables with lower losses compared to other funds.

The fund crisis had previously been brought to the political agenda with allegations that AKP Deputy Chairman Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya and her husband had achieved high earnings in a short time through Özata Denizcilik shares. Following the allegations, Kaya had resigned from her duties in the party.
