A response has come from the YENİ Party to the statement made by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli regarding Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş.

YENİ Party Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır stated that Yavaş is a “successful mayor” and noted that mayors are being brought to the agenda through political debates rather than their services.

In his assessment of Bahçeli, Başarır used the following expressions: “First of all, I would like to thank the Honorable Chairman for following such a successful mayor as Mansur Yavaş with such seriousness.”

Rejecting the claim that Yavaş is conducting a special promotional campaign, Başarır stated that it is natural for a politician to be on the agenda if they are successful and have support in society.

"First of all, I would like to thank the Honorable Chairman for following such a successful mayor as Mansur Yavaş with such seriousness. But government channels are also constantly bringing Mansur Yavaş to the agenda. The services our mayors provide and their touch on the public are not being discussed.

Furthermore, if a politician is on the agenda, if they are successful, and if they have support among the public, their PR is being done one way or another, whether you want it or not. But if you ask whether you are doing this specifically, or if Mr. Mansur is doing it; no, no, there is no such thing.

Evaluating the debates that emerged following Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş's meeting with AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, MHP leader Bahçeli stated that he was uncomfortable with Yavaş being constantly highlighted on certain television channels and said the following:

"While it is important for three or four media outlets to explain the process of a terror-free Turkey to the citizens and share the details of this, they were saying Ekrem İmamoğlu from morning until night, and now they are saying Mansur Yavaş. They are officially and openly doing PR.

I recently called a friend and assigned them to watch those channels and take notes on how many times Mansur Yavaş is mentioned. The name Mansur Yavaş is mentioned over 50 times in a single program alone.”
