He had said 'You will not hire those who are not married': Destici takes a step back from his controversial remarks
Great Unity Party (BBP) Chairman Mustafa Destici has responded to the backlash following his remarks that married individuals should be given priority in hiring, stating that his words were misunderstood.
Great Unity Party (BBP) Chairman Mustafa Destici had stated during his party's Ordinary Provincial Congress in Mardin Artuklu that married individuals should be given priority in hiring to encourage marriage. This proposal sparked a widespread debate in the public sphere, and Destici's expression, "You will not hire those who are not married," became the focus of criticism.
In a program he attended, Destici clarified these remarks, stating that they have no intention of excluding young people from working life. "We do not have a thesis that young people should not be hired. This is already unconstitutional," said Destici, adding that his words were taken out of context.
Destici stated that he used these expressions to draw attention, saying, "Everyone with good intentions understood this." He further claimed that some comments were intentionally distorted and reflected differently in an attempt to discredit them. Destici added, "We were not knowingly involved in a mistake. We may have faults, and we know how to step back from our mistakes."
