He wrote Kılıçdaroğlu's campaign song: 'From now on, I will write songs for ideas'

Onur Akın, the name behind many campaign songs, including the "Kılıçdaroğlu" song he wrote for Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the CHP's candidate for Istanbul Mayor in the 2009 local elections, stated that from now on he will write his songs only for ideas. Akın expressed that his feelings were very pure and that he found it difficult to handle even the criticism.

ON THE "KILIÇDAROĞLU" SONG

Participating in the Işıl Işıl Sahne program on Birgün TV, Onur Akın answered questions from Işıl Çalışkan and also revealed whether he regretted the "Kılıçdaroğlu" song from 2009. Akın responded to the frequently asked question, "Do you regret it?" regarding the song "Geliyor Kılıçdar, Kılıçdaroğlu..." by saying, "No, I do not." It was noted that the artist stands behind his song and stated that this song is a document of that period.

AN ARTIST CAN USE THEIR ART FOR SOCIAL BENEFIT

Onur Akın expressed that an artist should shape their art according to the needs of their society. Akın shared his views on the songwriting process, saying, "An artist is a person who bears witness to their era, produces work about their era, and leaves behind documents. When needed, an artist can use their art for social benefit."

THE DECISION TO SUPPORT KILIÇDAROĞLU

Onur Akın also conveyed that he decided to support the party after Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu became the CHP Chairman. Akın said, "A Kurd, an Alevi, and a leader I truly believed to be left-wing came to the head of the CHP. Kılıçdaroğlu was speaking with his calm power and his documents. My wife and I sat down and said, 'We need to support this man.'" Stating that he wrote the song at four in the morning and composed it by morning, Akın said that everyone liked the song when they first heard it and that it was met with interest.

"I WANT TO WRITE SONGS FOR IDEAS"

Stating that the songs he wrote for the CHP were not performed by some musicians of the period, Akın announced that from now on he would "write songs for ideas, not for names." Akın expressed that his feelings were pure and that he could not easily handle criticism. "I did everything with pure feelings, and I am still at the same point," he said, emphasizing the importance of his pure feelings, which he sees as a part of his art.
