High-ranking MHP official's remarks on the Constitutional Court: 'It must undergo a radical reform'

The repercussions continue following the Court of Cassation 3rd Criminal Chamber's ruling not to implement the 'rights violation' decision issued by the Constitutional Court (AYM) for imprisoned Gezi protest figure and TİP Hatay MP Can Atalay, as well as its decision to file a criminal complaint against the members of the Constitutional Court.

Making a statement on the matter, MHP Deputy Chairman and Kayseri MP İsmail Özdemir targeted the Constitutional Court.

'THE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT MUST UNDERGO A RADICAL REFORM'

In his statement, Özdemir included the following remarks:

"With the Presidential Government System, Turkey has reached conditions where the boundaries of the principle of separation of powers between the 'legislature and executive' are clearly defined, allowing for the protection and further development of stability. It is out of the question for the 'judiciary,' the third pillar of power, to be outside this scope. Ultimately, the Presidential Government System covers, or should cover, all powers. Recent developments within the judiciary have pointed to the necessity of bringing this branch into harmony with the system as well. It has once again become clear that the status, establishment and judicial principles, and member structure of the Constitutional Court are among our country's priority needs for a radical reform."
