Hours left until the historic summit: Erdoğan to meet with Özgür Özel at CHP Headquarters

The traffic of meetings between political party leaders that began in Ankara following the March 31 Local Elections continues at full speed.

All eyes in the political agenda are turned to the return visit that AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will pay to CHP Chairman Özgür Özel today. The two leaders will come together for the second time in 40 days.

The first meeting took place on May 2 at the AKP Headquarters and lasted one hour and 35 minutes. This time, the address is the CHP Headquarters. The critical summit will begin at 16:00.

Erdoğan, who is going to the CHP for the first time in 18 years, last visited the CHP Headquarters in 2006 to meet with the then-chairman, Deniz Baykal.

ÖZEL RECEIVED INFORMATION ON PROTOCOL RULES

According to the report on NTV; it was learned that before his meeting with Erdoğan, Özel met last week with Kemal Nerhozoğlu, who served as Secretary General to the 10th President, Ahmet Necdet Sezer.

It was stated that during that meeting, Özel received information regarding protocol rules.

According to information obtained, no major changes were made to Özel's office before this critical meeting. Only a chair similar to the one the chairman sits in was added.

A Turkish flag and a flag featuring the Presidential seal will be placed behind the chair where Erdoğan will sit. It was learned that officials from the Presidential protocol team also came to the CHP Headquarters to inspect the preparations on-site.

TWO NAMES WILL ACCOMPANY THE LEADERS

Erdoğan will be accompanied on his return visit to Özel by AKP Deputy Chairman Mustafa Elitaş and CHP Istanbul Deputy Namık Tan. The two are expected to take notes to record the discussions, just as they did during the first meeting.

WHAT TOPICS ARE ON THE TABLE?

The two leaders are expected to have different agenda items for the meeting.

Erdoğan is expected to bring up the new constitution, which he has been voicing for a long time, while Özel is expected to speak about economic developments.

Before the meeting, Özel also convened the Party Assembly (PM) and the Central Executive Board (MYK) to make final assessments regarding the agenda with the party management.
