House arrest for Nurullah Efe Ankut lifted

The Istanbul 59th Criminal Court of First Instance has lifted the judicial control measure of house arrest imposed on Nurullah Efe Ankut, who was charged with insulting the President.

The court evaluated the objection filed by Ankut's lawyer, Doğan Zafer Çıngı. The decision stated that the judicial control measure of "not leaving his residence," imposed by the Istanbul 1st Criminal Judgeship of Peace in its interrogation decision dated September 15, 2025, and numbered 2025/494, was contrary to procedure and the law.

In the decision rendered on October 6, 2025, Ankut's age, health status, and the existing evidence in the file were taken into consideration.

The court ruled to lift the house arrest on the grounds that "there is no suspicion of the suspect fleeing, the evidence has been collected, and there is no possibility of pressuring witnesses."

The decision also stated that the assessment of whether the statements in question constitute the crime of "publicly insulting the President" would be made by the public prosecutor at the conclusion of the investigation.

The court decided that the lifted measure should be terminated immediately as it was "restrictive of liberty" and ruled that the file be sent to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for enforcement procedures.
