Illegal cafe agenda in Bayrampaşa: AKP figures rewarded

Controversy continues at the Istanbul Bayrampaşa Municipality following the demolition of an illegal cafe by CHP Mayor Hasan Mutlu. Mutlu has been in custody for two months on the grounds that he demolished an illegal cafe within the municipality's jurisdiction.

Interesting developments occurred after the demolition of the illegal cafe, which was located next to a shopping mall in Bayrampaşa and belonged to CHP council member Saki Teker.

One of the first people to bring the illegal cafe to the agenda was AKP council member Muammer Kütük. Following the change in municipal administration, Kütük was appointed to an important position. Similarly, AKP council member Faruk Layık, who created a public stir by filming videos about the illegal cafe, also became one of the rising figures in the administration.

The process regarding the illegal cafe resulted in rewards for the figures highlighted by the AKP. Saki Teker, who led the demolition of the illegal cafe and resigned from the CHP, was appointed as deputy mayor by AKP Deputy Mayor İbrahim Akın during the mayoral election where he supported the AKP's candidate. Likewise, Ali Karahasanoğlu, another council member who left the CHP on the same day as Teker's resignation and supported the AKP's candidate, was appointed as a coordinator in the municipality.

REMARKABLE APPOINTMENTS IN THE MUNICIPALITY

The positions taken by Teker and other figures under the AKP administration have been quite remarkable. Muammer Kütük and Faruk Layık, who filmed videos about the illegal cafe and brought the issue to the agenda, were appointed as deputy mayors. Furthermore, the deputy mayor position gained by Saki Teker in the municipality, following the appointment of Ali Karahasanoğlu—another figure who had previously resigned from the CHP—as a coordinator, has further fueled the controversy.
