İmamoğlu had paid for the flight: Health Minister Memişoğlu says, 'We planned it'

Appearing as a guest on Habertürk with Mehmet Akif Ersoy, Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu described the journey of the young Turkish man who had an accident in Bali to return to Turkey. 

Minister Memişoğlu used the phrase "We planned it" regarding the arrival of the injured citizen, whose flight ticket was paid for by İmamoğlu, and also extended his thanks to Turkish Airlines.

When Health Minister Memişoğlu said, "It was said he could come on a normal flight. We planned it and brought him via THY," Ersoy interrupted and  asked, "Did you pay for it? Didn't Ekrem İmamoğlu get involved?" Minister Memişoğlu replied, "I don't know if he got involved or not. He provided the ticket. I don't get involved in that."

WHAT HAPPENED?

It was revealed that a Turkish citizen, Tuğcan Işık, who was severely injured in a traffic accident on the Indonesian island of Bali, was stranded in the hospital due to medical expenses.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu paid for the tickets for Tuğcan Işık, who had fractures in his body and was trying to return to Turkey, and his medical escort.

Murat Ongun, Chairman of the Board of Medya A.Ş, an İBB subsidiary, told Euronews, "When we saw it in Cüneyt Özdemir's post, we requested contact numbers, spoke over the phone, and understood the problem. Then we provided assistance."

Confirming that İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu paid for the injured citizen's ticket from his "personal account," Ongun stated that the ticket was issued as "business class."

Explaining that İmamoğlu paid 170,000 TL, Ongun noted, "Because they would only accept the patient and the accompanying medical staff if they traveled in business class."
