IMM poll from pro-government Optimar! Here are the vote shares for Ekrem İmamoğlu and Murat Kurum
The results of the latest poll conducted for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality by Optimar Research Company, chaired by Hilmi Daşdemir, who is known for his proximity to the government, have been revealed. Sharing the poll results, Abdulkadir Selvi wrote that the gap between Ekrem İmamoğlu and Murat Kurum is closing rapidly and that Kurum has taken the lead in one data point.
Turkey will head to the polls for local elections on March 31, 2024. Istanbul is at the top of the list of cities where the critical elections are most anticipated.
In order to win back Istanbul, which it lost in 2019, the AKP has nominated Murat Kurum to run against incumbent IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
The IYI Party, which decided to enter the local elections freely and independently, nominated Buğra Kavuncu. While the Felicity Party (Saadet Partisi) is preparing to enter the race with Birol Aydın and the Victory Party (Zafer Partisi) with Azmi Karamahmutoğlu, the New Welfare Party (Yeniden Refah Partisi) and the DEM Party have not yet announced their candidates.
Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi, known for his proximity to the government, shared Optimar's latest poll regarding the Istanbul elections in his column today. Stating that the Istanbul election will be a race between Murat Kurum and Ekrem İmamoğlu, Selvi said, "The other candidates will not win, but they will be influential in determining who loses."
According to the poll, the details of which were not provided, when asked "Which candidate do you think will solve Istanbul's problems?", 36.3 percent of the participants said Murat Kurum, while 35.2 percent said Ekrem İmamoğlu.
The responses of the participants, who were also asked who they would or would not vote for, are as follows:
The rate of those who said they would vote for Ekrem İmamoğlu was 39.1 percent, while the rate of those who said Murat Kurum was 37.7 percent. While 47 percent said they would not vote for İmamoğlu, this rate was 47.4 percent for Kurum.
The three services that Istanbul residents expect to be prioritized for solutions are as follows:
48.4 percent for solving the traffic problem; 39.2 percent for increasing public transportation services; 38.7 percent for carrying out urban transformation.
DO VOTERS FIND İMAMOĞLU SUCCESSFUL?
The poll also asked about İmamoğlu's success. 17.3 percent of the participants said he is definitely successful, while the rate of those who said he is successful is 27.2 percent. The satisfaction rate is 44 percent. A segment of 39.8 percent finds him unsuccessful. 20.5 percent stated that they find him neither successful nor unsuccessful.
When asked whether they were satisfied with the IMM services, 9.3 percent of the participants said "I am very satisfied," the rate of those who said "I am satisfied" was 33.7 percent, the rate of those who said "I am not satisfied" was 20.7 percent, and the rate of those who said "I am not satisfied at all" was 14.1 percent.
The participants' opinions regarding Murat Kurum are as follows:
Those who said very positive were 25.3 percent, and the rate of those who said somewhat positive was 30.1 percent. The rate of those who said positive comes out to 55.4 percent. Those who said not very positive were 22.3 percent, while those who said very negative were 22.4 percent. Those who said negative come out to 44.7 percent.
When asked to rank Ekrem İmamoğlu's top 5 characteristics, "high energy" comes in first place with 58.5 percent. In second place is his communication with the public with 56.7 percent. His knowledge and culture are in third place with 53.5 percent, and his leadership quality is in fourth place with 50.4 percent. His diligence finds its place in fifth with 49.2 percent.
Murat Kurum's top 5 characteristics in the poll are as follows: The "knowledgeable and cultured" option is in first place with 45.7 percent. In second place is the definition of "a man of duty" with 44.5 percent. In third place is his communication with the public with 44.4 percent, and in fourth place is his diligence with 44.3 percent. In fifth place is the "high energy" item with 44 percent.
WHAT IS THE SITUATION WITH OTHER CANDIDATES?
The rate of those who said they could vote for IYI Party candidate Buğra Kavuncu is 5 percent, while those who said Victory Party candidate Azmi Karamahmutoğlu is 4 percent. While Felicity Party candidate Birol Aydın receives 3 percent, the rate of those who said independent candidate Taylan Yıldız is 2 percent.
When asked which party they would vote for in Istanbul, the rate of those who said they would vote for the AKP is 48.7 percent, while the rate of those who said they would vote for the CHP is 44.8 percent.
