‘Coup’ debate in Imralı meeting... Statement comes from member of the delegation

DEM Party’s Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit denied the claim that Öcalan said “there will be a coup against Bahçeli within the MHP,” but confirmed that the phrase “if the process stalls, the mechanics of a coup will be activated” was used during the meeting.

‘Coup’ debate in Imralı meeting... Statement comes from member of the delegation

Discussions continue regarding the meeting held on Imralı Island between the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission formed in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) and the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, Abdullah Öcalan. While one member of parliament each from the AKP, DEM Party, and MHP participated in the delegation, the CHP and the New Way group did not appoint members to the commission. The commission is expected to announce its assessment of the meeting on Thursday.

‘COUP’ CLAIM COMES TO THE AGENDA

While debates regarding the opening of the Imralı minutes continue, former AKP MP Şamil Tayyar claimed that Öcalan said during the meeting, “If it is not successful, a coup will be carried out against Devlet Bey within the MHP.”

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli responded to the claim by saying, “These are all nonsense.”

“ÖCALAN DID NOT SAY SUCH A THING”

DEM Party Group Deputy Chairman Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, who participated in the meeting, categorically denied Tayyar’s claim in a statement made on the Spot Press Cooperative’s YouTube channel. Koçyiğit stated, “Mr. Öcalan did not have a sentence like ‘If the process fails, there will be a coup against Bahçeli within the MHP.’”

Stating that the claim was distorted, Koçyiğit conveyed the expression Öcalan actually used as follows:

“It would be more accurate to express it in the most general terms by saying, ‘If the process is not successful, the mechanics of a coup will be activated, and this will target many segments.’”

In her statement, Koçyiğit also argued that the process was being manipulated and made the following assessment:

“This is a manipulation, and everyone knows the person doing it. It is not something as Şamil Tayyar said. Mr. Bahçeli has been standing in a position where he has taken responsibility for the progress of this process by taking serious risks since the first day. There is a focus. This focus wants the anti-solution line to strengthen in a multifaceted way and is trying to pull everyone there. Everyone needs to take a position that will prevent the anti-solution focus from strengthening.”
