In his post, Güney stated, "The AKP, which thought it could obtain through dirty bargaining the authority it could not win at the ballot box, has received a lesson in democracy."

He also thanked his party members in the council and the people of Beyoğlu, saying, "The rights of Beyoğlu are entrusted to you."
