Investigation had been launched: Özgür Çelik to testify at Çağlayan tomorrow

CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik will testify as part of an investigation launched due to statements he made following the election for the Üsküdar Deputy Mayor.

Çelik is expected to go to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan on September 11 at 09:30 to provide his statement to the prosecutor's office.

The investigation was launched following Çelik's remarks regarding Municipal Council Member Ayhan Aydın after the Üsküdar Deputy Mayor election held on September 8. Çelik had claimed that Aydın called him and said he had been "threatened with arrest" by a prosecutor.

Çelik had stated, "Ayhan Aydın called me crying. He said, 'The prosecutor threatened me with arrest; my son and wife are disabled, who will look after them? I surrendered to them because there is no one else to look after them.'"

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation following these statements. Ayhan Aydın had also previously provided a statement as part of the investigation.

It was stated that in his testimony, Aydın claimed that numerous phone calls were made to him at Çelik's request prior to the deputy mayor election and that attempts were made to pressure him during these calls.
