Investigation launched into Doğu Perinçek over remarks regarding Bashar al-Assad

An investigation has been launched into Vatan Party Chairman Doğu Perinçek. The reason for the investigation opened against Perinçek was stated as his labeling of the Free Syrian Army as terrorists and his use of praise for the Bashar al-Assad regime during a live broadcast he attended.

The statement included the following expressions:
"An ex officio investigation has been launched by our Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding Vatan Party Chairman Doğu Perinçek due to his remarks made during a live broadcast on the media outlet Tv100 on 7/12/2024, in which he labeled the Free Syrian Army operating in the country of Syria as terrorists and used words praising the Bashar al-Assad regime, in a manner contrary to the general national security policy of our State"
